🧭 Getting there

The way to Canoé

Leaving Fortim on the road to Pontal de Maceió, look out for the "Praia Canoé" sign and turn right. It is one of the few beaches in the area with a signposted entrance, which helps on a first visit.

Without a car, you can book one of the local taxis listed on the Tours page. Our article Fortim without a car explains how to get around by taxi, on foot and on tours.

🏖️ What it is like

A wide, quiet strip of sand

Much less busy than Canto da Barra, Canoé has wide sand and few facilities. It is the beach for laying out a towel, walking with no rush and having plenty of room, even in high season.

Houses and gated communities are going up around it, but the sand stays open to everyone: in Brazil every beach is public, and no one can block access along the shore.

🚶 Low tide

The walk to Farol Beach

The best thing to do at Canoé is free: at low tide, follow the water's edge to Farol Beach. The ground is flat and the view opens up as you go, with the sea on one side and empty sand ahead.

Set off on a falling tide, never a rising one. At high tide the way back along the sand disappears in places and you have to return inland, by the road.

i
Bring water, a hat and shoes that can get wet. The wind is deceptive: the sun on this coast burns even when you do not feel hot.
