🌅 Sunset without the crowds

Farol Beach:
the beach you earn on foot

Reached mainly along the sand and almost always empty, Farol Beach is the reward for the low-tide walk that starts at Canoé, and one of the quietest places in Fortim to watch the sun go down.

🚶 Getting there

The beach is the path

The classic way to reach Farol Beach is to leave Canoé Beach at low tide and follow the water's edge. It is a flat walk, with no trail or climb, that anyone used to walking can do easily.

The tide decides everything. It comes about 50 minutes later each day, so yesterday's timing will not work today: check the tide table the day before and set off on a falling tide.

i
If the water starts rising before you head back, do not cross flooded stretches: go back inland, by the road.
🌅 Late afternoon

Sunset without the crowds

Since most people watch the sunset at Canto da Barra, Farol Beach is usually empty at the same time. The sun sets between 5:20 and 5:55 pm depending on the season, so you can walk out late in the afternoon as long as the tide lets you come back along the sand.

The way back is in low light: bring a torch or a charged phone. If the tide is not on your side, switch plans and watch the sunset at Canto da Barra, within walking distance of Barra do Fortim. More ideas in the best sunset spots in Fortim.

🗼 The lighthouse

Which lighthouse is which

Fortim has two lighthouse spots, and people often mix them up: the Farol da Barra, closer to the Jaguaribe river mouth, and the lighthouse in the village of Pontal de Maceió, next to the lookout. Agree with whoever you are going with which one is the goal before you leave.
